HelloReturn to index of stories... |
Hello. I'm Allison McNair. Welcome to this Friday Edition of New Hampshire Outlook. |
Roundtable - WarReturn to index of stories... |
Joining us this week for our friday edition, from the state house in Concord, Kevin Landrigin of the Telegraph and Norma Love of the Associated Press. And here in studio Jeff Feingold of the New Hampshire Business Review. Thank you all for joining us this week. A graduate of the University of New Hampshire is listed as the first American journalist killed in the War with Iraq. Michael Kelly- editor at large for Atlantic Monthly and columnist for the Washington Post was travelling with the third infantry division when he was killed in humvee accident. His syndicated column appeared in the Union Leader. It's been more than two weeks since the war began. The reports continue to come in from embedded journalists. |
Letter CommentReturn to index of stories... |
Reaction has been strong to the War in Iraq and our coverage. We thought we'd share a few of these views regarding a Friday Edition we aired on March 23rd following the start of the war. Norma Kevin and Jeff you were on that program. We talked about the war coverage and also the the labeling of military operations with terminology like "shock and awe", and "decaptitation." We got feedback from viewers both positive and negative. We start with a letter from one of our viewers from Bedford who wrote. "Neither did any of them discuss Saddam Hussein's bloody reign nor his blatant refusal to comply with U.N. mandates for 12 years. People like Norma have to be the darlings of the intelligentsia in Hanover and Durham but she hasn't any idea of the average American." |
Email CommentReturn to index of stories... |
From a viewer in Wolfeboro Falls we received this email. I am really greatful for the alternative, courageous exploration of pieces of the war in Iraq that you people presented. It's refreshing to see that NH journalists can still, at least at this point, stand up for honest reaction. |
Phone CommentReturn to index of stories... |
And from a viewer in the Manchester Area we received this phone message. "I'm watching NH Outlook. I'm ashamed of this program. I am really ashamed that NHPTV would be putting on this liberal fiasco." |

The 78--billion-dollar war budget requested by President Bush has been given the go ahead by the U.S. House and Senate. All four congresional representatives from New Hampshire voted in favor of a plan to cover the initial costs of the war with Iraq and other anti-terrorism efforts. The state Senate said no to extending kindergaten aid to towns past 2004. There are 19 towns in New Hamsphire that don't have public kindergarten. Some Senators said the five years that have passed since original offer of aid have been long enough for communities to apply for money. Kevin, Norma this was a 12 12 vote. Norma Legislation that would control the cost of medical mapractice insurance will go before the state senate next week. Yesterday the Senate insurancew comittee endorsed the legislation.Apprently there was a lot of negotiating between NH Medical Society and tril lawyers.Kevin House and Senate budget committees continue to go over Governor Benson's budget proposal with a fine tooth comb. This week one subcommittee voted down the Governor's proposal to close the Women's prison in Goffstown. SARS - Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome has made it's way into the U.S. There have been cases in Massachusetts and earlier this week, a plane in California was quaranteened after there were reports of ill passengers aboard a flight that originated from China. New Hampshire health officials are on alert and haev communicated with hospitals and other medical personnel. We spring the clocks foward early Sunday morning, although the weather isn't looking too springy at all. |
